Actress Mackenzie Phillips has been released on $10,000 bail following her arrest for possession of a controlled substance on Wednesday.

Phillips, 48, was taken into custody in Los Angeles after she was caught in possession of heroin and cocaine at LAX Airport at 10 a.m. after she failed a routine security screening, prompting a secondary search.

According to Los Angeles Airport Police Sergeant Jim Holcomb: "A balloon and a plastic bag containing a small amount of heroin and cocaine" were recovered.

Holcomb adds: "I was told initially she was a little uncooperative, but then she was fine."

The actress/singer - daughter of The Mamas & The Papas' rock legend John Phillips - has a long history of substance abuse.

The One Day at a Time star - who has been in and out of rehab a reported eight times - was fired from the hit U.S. show twice over rising concerns of her drug abuse during the 1970s.
